Out with Gea
Gea is already three stages on her way, but let's take a step back in time. About three weeks before departure, I meet her in the Lumen Lounge for a well-deserved cup of coffee. She has already covered 14 kilometers by then. While most people take the car or bike, Gea seizes the moment to train. Her route? From beyond Dalfsen to the stadium in Zwolle and back along the Vecht, with a packed backpack.
A special journey of 2,000 kilometers
Last Monday, August 18, Gea started her impressive walking tour from Zwolle to Sweden: a journey of no less than 2,000 kilometers. This journey is split into two parts: from Zwolle to Helsingør and in May and June 2026 from Helsingborg to Husby. The winter season in Sweden can be bitterly cold, and her husband Arie – who follows her with the camper for overnight stays and care – also found 3 months of continuous travel just a bit too long.😉
With a heart for Powerchair Football
During our coffee moment, Gea enthusiastically talks about Powerchair Football in Zwolle and the children she has met there. Besides this initiative, Gea has been able to support many beautiful causes and meet special people during her years at Regio Zwolle United. She takes me through her memories of moments when children had the day of their lives. For example, the many beautiful editions of the Hotel PEC concept, which RZU initiated together with Lumen, where children and adults who could use a little support are put in the spotlight.

Powerchair Zwolle is a form of football that makes it possible for children with disabilities to play football, using an electric wheelchair. One such wheelchair costs €14,000! I see tears of joy and a smile from ear to ear on Gea's face when I tell her that we will support her action in the coming months.
Lumen supports Gea's mission
I see tears of joy and a smile from ear to ear on Gea's face when I tell her that we will support her action in the coming months.
At Lumen Hotel & Events, we save each quarter together with hotel guests for a regional cause. By saving on cleaning costs and products, guests make a green choice and donate to a good cause. For the coming quarter, the choice was quickly made: when we heard that Gea is going to walk 2,000 kilometers for Powerchair Zwolle after her retirement, we immediately knew this would be our goal.
Stages and involvement
Gea walks in 38 stages towards Helsingør. Each stage will be approximately 25 kilometers, and companies from the region can sponsor a stage for €200. Gea's journey can be followed via Polarsteps, where she provides an update after each stage through a travel report. Tip: search for Gea Luttels in the Polarsteps app and feel free to send her a follow request! And are you staying at Lumen soon? Then definitely think of Gea, who is walking somewhere between Zwolle and Sweden—for a wonderful cause!
