Savings Campaign Lumen Hotel & Events Yields Impressive Amount for PEC Zwolle Powerchair Football
PEC Zwolle Powerchair Football received a value check of €2,385 last Friday thanks to a savings campaign by Lumen Hotel & Events and the walking initiative of Gea Luttels (a former employee of the club). The check was presented at the hotel in Zwolle and will be fully used for the further development of Powerchair Football in the region.
Four players from the PEC Zwolle Powerchair Football team were present at the presentation. Noud, Xavi, Tom, and Matthijn came with their parents to the hotel, just before their weekly training. Their presence underscored what the campaign is ultimately about: sports enjoyment and participation for everyone.
Savings Campaign with Hotel Guests
The proceeds were achieved through an accessible and sustainable savings campaign by Lumen Hotel & Events. "By opting out of room cleaning, our hotel guests contribute to a good cause and sustainability," says Chris Lindeboom of Lumen Hotel & Events. "That we can link this initiative to Powerchair Football Zwolle makes it extra valuable."
Efforts of Gea Luttels
A significant role in the campaign is played by Gea Luttels, who has been committed to the team for a long time. She started the first part of an impressive 2,000-kilometer walking journey from the Netherlands to Sweden last August to raise money for Powerchair Football. On Wednesday, April 22, she will start the second part, from Helsingborg to Dala-Husby (over 1,000 kilometers). Gea worked for fifteen years for Regio Zwolle United, the social heart of PEC Zwolle, before she retired. With this campaign, she wants to do something extra for the target group that is close to her heart. Read more about her campaign and how you can possibly contribute.
"With the first part of my walking journey, I have already raised enough money for one complete powerchair," says Gea. "Such a chair quickly costs €14,000. How wonderful would it be if we could save up for another chair with the second part?"
What is Powerchair Football?
Powerchair Football is a fast-growing and inclusive form of football in the Netherlands, specially developed for players who use a (electric) wheelchair in daily life. With the help of a special foot bumper on the electric sports wheelchair, players can pass and shoot and fully play in a team. The team trains for an hour weekly and is part of a national competition. Besides Zwolle, there are teams active in Almelo, Nijmegen, and Eindhoven.
Involvement of RZU
Eilt Staal, director of Regio Zwolle United (RZU), was also present at the presentation. RZU and PEC Zwolle play an important role in supporting Powerchair Football Zwolle. "We are grateful to Lumen for their savings campaign and involvement," says Eilt. "Powerchair Football Zwolle shows how important sport is for the children. That our former colleague Gea is so committed to this makes us extremely proud."
Football for Everyone
That Powerchair Football is more than just sport is also evident from the players themselves. Noud, an enthusiastic football fan and big PEC Zwolle supporter, says: "I follow the Eredivisie every week and support PEC Zwolle at every home game from the wheelchair stand. Playing football with the team is the most fun thing there is!"
With the start of the second part of Gea's walking journey, there is again an opportunity to contribute together to a suitable football offer for everyone.
